Chair Fit at Blair Mayne Leisure Centre – Supporting Balance, Strength & Fall Prevention

This week’s Chair Fit (Fall Prevention and Balance) class at Blair Mayne Leisure Centre was once again at full capacity, with 35 participants attending and a waiting list of 10. The demand for this class continues to grow each week, highlighting how valuable and needed this session is within our community.

Chair Fit is specifically designed to help improve balance, strength, coordination, and confidence in a safe and supportive environment. The class is particularly beneficial for individuals who may have reduced mobility, are returning to exercise, or want to reduce their risk of falls while staying active.


Class Overview

 

Participants worked through a structured session focusing on controlled, functional movements that support everyday activities such as standing, walking, reaching, and turning.


Strength and Mobility

 

The class included targeted exercises to build strength in the legs, core, and upper body, all of which play a key role in maintaining stability and independence. Movements were performed in a seated position, with options to progress where appropriate.


Balance and Coordination

Specific drills were included to improve body awareness, posture, and reaction time, which are essential components of fall prevention. Even in a chair-based format, these exercises provide meaningful improvements in stability and confidence.


A Class in High Demand

This class is consistently fully booked, and we recognise the frustration of members who are unable to secure a place. We are currently reviewing options to help accommodate more participants while maintaining a safe and effective class environment.
